All South Africans know and love traditional South African dishes such as Bunny Chow. As Freshyumm is a South African based company, we enjoy continuing the traditions of our country. Bunny Chow is a Proudly South African dish that originates from Durban. Its spices will keep your warm on a cold day. Here is an easy recipe on how to make Bunny Chow that will definitely make your taste buds tingle.
Ingredients:
· 1kg lamb pieces
· 1 tbsp cooking oil
· 2 cinnamon sticks
· 1 tsp fennel seeds
· 1 bay leaf
· 6 green cardamoms
· 4 cloves
· Curry leaves
· 1 tsp crushed chillies
· 1 diced onion
· ½ tsp turmeric
· 2tbsp crushed ginger and garlic mix
· 1 tbsp white vinegar
· 2 tsp sugar
· 3 tsp chilli powder
· 2 tsp dhania-jeeru powder
· 1 tsp garam masala
· 2 blended tomatoes
· 5 small quartered potatoes
· Fresh chopped coriander
· Salt
· Bread roll with the inside scooped out and top of the roll cute open as a lid
Method:
· Heat oil in a pot and add cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaf and fennel and stir.
· Add curry leaves, chillies, onion, turmeric, ginger and garlic and braise for 3-4 minutes.
· Add garam masala and spices to the pot and then sugar and vinegar. Mix All together.
· Add the meat and salt and mix until the meat is coated with all of the spices.
· Put the lid on and cook on a moderate heat for a few minutes. Be sure to stir from time to time and then add the potatoes.
· Add water if needed and then when potatoes are almost cooked add the chopped tomatoes and stir in coriander.
· Scoop the curry into the bread roll and use the top of the roll as a lid of the bunny chow.
